Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneurship Program

41% of middle and high school students plan to start their own businesses.

45% say that they will invent something world changing.

Rural youth have less opportunities to observe entrepreneurial achievement. They have limited access to mentors and fewer role models. The Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneurship program fills these gaps.

Here’s what people are saying about this course:

I am very impressed with the Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneur program of Wallowa County. It is an innovative and unique program. I wish there had been something like this when I was in high school. As an enthusiastic supporter, I give it my highest endorsement.

I wish it could be required for all high school juniors and seniors.

I have been nothing but impressed with the Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneur Program. From business skills to tools for success in life, it provides a hands-on, meaningful experience that can be hard to find for our rural students. I wish it could be required for all high school juniors and seniors.

Vicki Searles Executive Director, Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce

Teens become the starts of the awards banquet

Each year the teens of the Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneur Program become the stars of the Wallowa County Citizen Awards Banquet when they present their businesses. We see the entrepreneurial spirit influence their personal and professional growth and confidence. The Chamber encourages all rural counties to consider the importance of this education.

Entrepreneurship Teaches Valuable LifeSkills

Entrepreneurship teaches kids about planning, financial responsibility, supply and demand, the importance of relationships, and how to moderate risks.

Youth entrepreneurship has been proven to improve academic performance, school attendance, interpersonal skills, job readiness, problem solving skills, and decision-making abilities.

Entrepreneurship is a Safe Place to Experiment

Teen entrepreneurship provides the perfect arena to experiment with career paths, business ideas, and self-identities.

Youth entrepreneurship is the mature equivalent of playing dress-up. Students can try on a lot of different options with little risk.

Entrepreneurship is a Career Path and not just a Hobby

Students these days demonstrate strong interest in entrepreneurship not just as an alternative to traditional employment if times get tough but as a primary career objective before, during, and after college. While research findings on youth attitudes toward entrepreneurship differ, entrepreneurship is not disappearing as a career path and students should have the opportunity to explore that path while still in school.
